France trip, Oct 2009 - Cahors

Cahors is a medieval university city and wine-producing region. Nowadays, it is most famous for its bridge.

The Pont Valentre has long been the symbol of the city. The bridge is the only fortified bridge in the world with 3 towers and it is classed as a Major site on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

If you are into bridges, then this bridge is highly recommended. It is hard to imagine how people can build such a big structure over a river in the 13th Century (Legend has it that it was built with a deal with the devil.)

The town itself is supposed to be a good place to sample the local cuisine. We didn't stop by for a meal, though I would highly recommend visiting Cahors with Saint-Cirq Lapopie.

Also, I would recommend that when taking portraits, watch out for people sabotaging your photo, as seen in the following pictures!

Me, posing for a photo. Look at the shadow on the left, behind the first column.

Here is a blown up version of the photo! :-P
